SI Names Golden State Warriors 2018 Sportsperson of the Year Sports Illustrated has given out the 'Sportsperson of the Year' award since 1954. It can either be given to a specific athlete or a whole team who best exemplifies achievement and sportsmanship. Sports Illustrated, via statement SI says it is also recognizing the Warriors' commitment to service, community and the importance of taking a stand on matters beyond the NBA. Golden State is the fourth team to win the award and the first since the 2004 Boston Red Sox.
