The much delayed launch of Bajaj Auto Qute is now a reality.
Bajaj Qute 4 wheeler is registered as a quadricycle in India. Price has not been revealed for India yet. In international markets it is sold for about Rs 3 lakhs. Bajaj Qute is listed in a new category of vehicle for commercial use after the courts reviewed its vehicle classification following a string of PIL’s that blocked its launch these last few years citing the vehcle’s inability to meet crash safety norms. With sale in India postponed indefinitely, Bajaj Qute was made available as exports to Latin America, Europe and Africa in 2015. Bajaj Auto’s Qute quadricycle yearly production capacity stands at 60,000 at its Aurangabd manufacturing facility. Keeping in mind demand, if need be, the company can use the three-wheeler production capacity to manufacture Qute. New Bajaj Qute gets power from a five speed, 216cc engine to return peak power of 13.2 PS. Max speed is pegged at 70 kmph. Similar to an auto rickshaw in terms of seating, Qute seats three passengers and a driver.
Qute is a motorised quadricycle defined by weight, power and speed. It weighs under 450kgs, that is, 37% lighter than the smallest car in the market. Being light in weight also makes it an energy efficient vehicle. Qute sits on a water-cooled Digital Tri-Spark ignition 4-valve engine and a closed loop fuel injection system. This helps it in delivering high performance in power and control. With a really small turning circle radius of 3.5m, Qute is equipped to take the twists and turns of urban roads with ease. The vehicle has a dash mounted shift lever, which offers very low resistance and is also conveniently located.
Qute has got the ARAI approval after meeting the Indian Quadricycle norms. Incidentally, they are more stringent than the European Quadricycle norms. It has also got the European WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) certification awarded by RDW Netherlands.)
