This Mystery About Plastics In The Ocean Remains Unsolved

Plastic debris in the ocean doesn't simply cluster in large floating patches, says HuffPost. In fact, only a tiny amount of the plastic in the seas drifts on the surface. So, the question remains: where’s the rest of it? One oceanographer revealed, “We really don’t know where most of the plastic is ending up in the ocean." Most scientists believe the majority is likely dispersed throughout the deep ocean and sitting on the seafloor. Another possibility is that some of the missing plastics are washing up on beaches and coasts. A smaller fraction of the missing plastic could also be trapped inside of animals.
