Leslie Cockburn wants to be the first woman to represent Virginia’s 5th congressional district.

“We have so many women who were leading happy lives very competently doing amazing things not politics who jumped in. And I'm really proud to be among these women because they're doing really well and at least a big group of them are going to get up to Capitol Hill and they will change things,” she explained. “This is going to be the most fantastic freshman class that we've seen in a very long time.”

Cockburn was an award-winning journalist on “60 Minutes” and “Frontline” who said she decided to run after becoming alarmed with Trump’s rhetoric.

“Once Trump was elected I recognized that not only was I really disturbed as a woman to have him in this position but as a former journalist he was saying that journalists were the enemy of the people and I felt that that crossed the line, a very profound line, because we cannot have a democracy without journalism,” she stated.

Cockburn’s daughter, actress Olivia Wilde has also been knocking on doors with volunteers to drum up support for her mom’s contentious race.

Cockburn said she plans to fight for women through policy by demanding equal pay, reproductive rights, and affordable health care.
