【Video】Listen to the bilingual kids reciting songs in Putonghua. Video taken on Oct 19 shows kindergarten students in Hotan, NW China's Xinjiang, reciting children's song in standard Putonghua. GT reporters learned that currently there are a total of 132 kindergartens in Hotan, of which 86 were newly built in 2017 alone. The enrollment rate of school-age children reached 100 percent, and bilingual education fully covers the first three years of compulsory education. According to Zhai Qiyong, Party Secretary of the Hotan Education Bureau, these children are able to act as "little interpreters" for the elderly in the village who don't understand Putonghua.
