Virgin Galactic could launch spacecraft 'within weeks'

US — Virgin Galactic is all set to launch its latest SpaceShipTwo, the VSS Unity.

The ship is designed to carry two crew members as well as six passengers.

However, tickets for the spacecraft do not come cheap. People have paid upwards of $250,000 for a seat, according to Digital Trends.

The VSS Unity will first be taken into space with a carrier aircraft called the WhiteKnight Two, according to the Guardian.

Once the spacecraft reaches a certain altitude, the VSS Unity will be "dropped" by the carrier aircraft, which is when its rocket engines fire up.

The VSS Unity will have to reach heights of 100 km in order to reach space.

Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Galactic, told CNBC he is confident that they would be in space "within weeks, not months."
