Demonstrators toppled a statue of a Confederate soldier that stood inside the University of North Carolina campus at Chapel Hill on August 20. The statue known as Silent Sam is the latest in a string of monuments to be demolished amidst heated debate about race and the legacy of slavery in the United States.
