According to a report by Reuters, Russia voiced its support for Saudi Arabia in its worsening dispute with Canada on Wednesday, stating that it was unacceptable for Ottawa to lecture the kingdom on human rights. Saudi Arabia reportedly expelled the Canadian ambassador this week, as well as froze new trade and investment with Canada, in a retaliatory move following Canada's public call for the release of arrested human rights activists.
