Syrian government forces have retaken areas in the rebel-held city of Deraa, raising national flags across the birthplace of the revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
Rebels reportedly agreed to surrender in exchange for safe passage to the north.
It marks a major victory for the Assad regime in Syria's eight-year civil war, as he tries to regain full control of the country.
He has almost accomplished that goal with the help of Russia and Iran.
