President Trump on Thursday expressed confidence in the progress being made in relations with North Korea.  He tweeted a letter written by the regime's leader Kim Jong-un and wrote: "A very nice note from Chairman Kim of North Korea. Great progress being made!" A translation of the letter, which is dated July 6, reads, in part: "I firmly believe that strong will, sincere efforts and unique approach of myself and Your Excellency Mr. President aimed at opening up a new future between the DPRK and the U.S. will surely come to fruition."
In contrast, North Korea on Saturday called its in-person denuclearization talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo "extremely regrettable" and accused the US of making "gangster-like" demands.
Responding to those comments, Pompeo told reporters Sunday: "If those requests were gangster-like, the world is a gangster because there was a unanimous decision at the UN Security Council about what needs to be achieved."
According to Sky News, the regime's Foreign Ministry had said in a statement, "The US attitude and positions at the high-level talks on Friday and Saturday were extremely regrettable."
