In 1953, "Do Bigha Zamin" directed by Bimal Roy captured the attention of films . This was some two years before Satyajit's Ray movie 'Panjaali' was released. "Do Bigha Zamin" was a sensitive film. Inspired by the newer realistic tradition of European cinema and it it went on to become a landmark in Indian Cinema. Init's week, it established the reputation of its director, Bimal Roy, as one of the major talent in the Indian film industry.
