Will the Superhero Bubble Burst in 2018?

2017 was a great year for superhero movies, and 2018 will surely deliver some fantastic flicks as well. There is an unprecedented amount of superhero content coming out this year, which brings about the questions, are we getting too much of a good thing? Is there a limit to the comic book craziness that audiences will accept?  And could the superhero bubble burst in 2018?

Marvel Studios is kicking off the year strong by releasing “Black Panther,” followed by the highly anticipated crossover “Infinity War.” “Ant Man and the Wasp,” as well as X Men and Deadpool sequels are also slated to come out.

Though these look like they will be great films, it’s also difficult to imagine that every superhero fan will be able to afford seeing them in theaters, seeing how tickets range from $12-$17. Also, too many good movies coming out at once could mean that certain objectively great films will be overshadowed by each other, created a totally oversaturated market. What’s more, with movies like “Infinity War,” which is a crossover film, audiences have to remember a significant number of backstories. This could deter people from enjoying an otherwise good film — but only time will tell which film trends arise this year.
