Uplifting moment pensioner leads shoppers in piano sing-along

This is the touching moment a pensioner leads passing shoppers in an impromptu piano sing-along.

The reluctant 75-year-old was persuaded to sit down at the public instrument at a shopping mall in Manila, Philippines, on May 16.

A crowd gathered around to listen to the old boy's tunes as he proved he still has the inner showman - coaxing them into joining him as he belted out ''Why do birds suddenly appear...''.

The 1970s hit - Close To You by the Carpenters - had dozens of people singing along with the former church pianist named Bong Ynfante - who was visibly delighted after he finished his rendition.

Onlooker Raymund Guevara said: ''This was such a beautiful moment. Even when we are old and grey we can still spread so much love.''

Raymund said he spoke afterwards with the pensioner who told him his age and his name.

He added: ''He used to be a pianist in church, which is where he learned how to sing and play. It's a wonderful talent he has and it was a special moment for him to have everyone stop their busy day to join him.''
