According to Sotheby's Paris, the Chinese vase dates back to the Qing dynasty, and is "a unique example produced by the finest craftsmen of the time for the Qianlong Emperor."
The auction house also notes it was left to the current owners by their grandparents, who had received it from a relative with an impressive collection of Chinese art. It appears the family is not particularly troubled by parting with the heirloom. "We didn't like the vase too much, and my grandparents didn't like it either," one of the owners told Agence France-Presse. The piece will be put up for auction at Sotheby's Paris in June.
