Zhao Yang once said, ‘Entering a studio is like entering a meditation room’. To him, painting is somehow an exercise for his mind, and the very act of gazing is important for his painting practice. The time when he, putting down his brushes, gazes at the painted canvas in front of him to see it unfold within itself is a profound moment of introspection and epiphany.
