Dust Devil Swirls Near Texas Wildfire

A dust devil was seen on Monday, May 7, near the helibase being used to fight a wildfire in western Texas. The McDannald Fire near Fort Davis stood at 19,043 acres on Wednesday and was 68 percent contained.“Dust devils on or near a wildfire are not a welcome sight to wildland firefighters,” Texas A&M Forest Service officials said in the post of the video on Wednesday. “Dust devils are able to spread firebrands from within containment lines to areas outside of the line, starting new fires.”The helibase in Marfa is being used by the air operations crews in fighting the fire.
