Madonna to Direct Film About Famous Ballerina Michaela DePrince The pop superstar will direct 'Taking Flight,' the real story of how DePrince went from a Sierra Leone orphan to a famous ballerina. The movie was written by Camilla Blackett and is based off of DePrince's memoir that she wrote with her adoptive mother. The movie follows DePrince's early trauma of losing her family in Sierra Leone to becoming adopted by an American family. Michaela’s journey resonated with me deeply as both an artist and an activist who understands adversity. We have a unique opportunity to shed light on Sierra Leone and let Michaela be the voice for all the orphaned children she grew up beside. I am honored to bring her story to life.
