Ford BLIS blind spot Warning: Diag & Repair

Who said that new cars are problem-free and reliable?

This 2015 Ford Escape company car is beeping and chiming and fussing so much, that I couldn't drive it for more than 10 minutes without going crazy!

The warning message on the dash says "BLIS unavailable, trailer attached"...even though there is no trailer on the hitch. What trailer? What is BLIS?
