According to a report by Gizmodo, Saturday marks the 5,000th local day of operations for NASA's Mars Opportunity rover, originally designed to last just 90 sols after its January 2004 landing date. The rover has continued to set milestones like completing a marathon-length tour of its surroundings and taking a massive number of composite photos of the planet's surface.
