A minivan driver carrying gas canisters has plowed into pedestrians, injuring 18 people in Shanghai.

In the video, captured today (February 2), smoke can be seen coming out of the minivan that came to a halt in front of a Starbucks coffee shop.

Firefighters try to extinguish the flames and tend to the injured.

Eighteen people were injured and sent to hospital, three with serious injuries.

Local reports say that the driver, known as Chen, was smoking in the van and that this ignited the gas canisters.
