There is a brand new book about Star Wars hitting shelves: The Art of Star Wars - The Last Jedi. The book gives an look at George Lucas's scrapped ideas for the third Star Wars trilogy. Before selling the franchise to Disney, Lucas had an idea of where he wanted Star Wars to go. According to J.J. Abrams “Disney had already decided they didn’t want to go that direction." The mandate from Disney was to start from scratch and tell a story that was the continuum.” Lucas’ original idea of Episode VII was for Luke to train his new Jedi student. According to the book people realized it would be better for Luke to be the person everyone is looking for but cannot find until the end of Episode VII.
