After years of performing in numerous reggae bands, the members of ARTIKaL Sound System joined to create a group with a fresh sound inspired by the South Florida Reggae scene. In 2012 they debuted their self-titled EP, which blended reggae with hip-hop, dancehall and R&B. Their six-track EP included a Jimi Hendrix dub and is available for free download. They kicked off the EP release by launching a United States east coast tour and performed internationally in Peru.
ARTIKaL has collaborated with some of the most influential musicians and artists on the reggae scene, including RedLyte, The Abbysinians, Apple Gabriel of Israel Vibration,and two decedants of Bob Marley himself – Alex Marley and Biggz General. The band has also shared the stage with Pepper, Dirty Heads, The Wailers, Steel Pulse, Yellowman, Less Than Jake, The Aggrolites and Jesse Royal.
TWICE #2 ON BILLBOARD'S REGGAE CHART
In 2015 the band released Inversions, peaking at number 2 on the Reggae Billboard chart, which was a mixture of roots, rock, reggae and features Chris Montague and Chris Cope on lead vocals, with special appearances from Menny More of Easy Star All Stars and Cadet-Yo of Deadbeat Writers Lab.
In October 2015 they released Dubversions, which also peaked at number 2 on the Reggae Billboard Chart. Dubversions is a remix of Inversions in a classic rub-a-dub style. The band supported it with the Sunshine Tour and got the attention of the Jamaican Observer.
In August 2016 they released the single “Walk Away,” exposing the new sound of the much-anticipated EP Smoke and Mirrors. The band joined forces with singer/dj Monsoon, a native of Northern Clarendon in Jamaica. The veteran singer-songwriter's vocal ability has been compared to reggae veterans Capleton, Luciano and Tony Rebel.
