A study conducted at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) found that sleep depravation can actually change your world view. For the firs time, they were able to show how fatigue interrupts brain cells and can disrupt how quickly they communicate and prevent memories from forming properly. This could have huge implications for laws on driving while sleepy, as professor of neurosurgery Dr. Itzhak Fried points out, The very act of seeing the pedestrian slows down in the driver's over-tired brain. It takes longer for his brain to register what he's perceiving. - Dr. Itzhak Fried Inadequate sleep exerts a similar influence on our brain as drinking too much. The researchers discovered that when brain waves were slowed down, those areas of the brain were actually trying to sleep and regain energy.
