Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is said to be concerned that President Trump could potentially be ousted from office.
"Two weeks ago, according to a source, Bannon did a spitball analysis of the Cabinet to see which members would remain loyal to Trump in the event the 25th Amendment were invoked, thereby triggering a vote to remove the president from office," a Vanity Fair report on Wednesday noted. "Bannon recently told people he's not sure if Trump would survive such a vote."
Bannon is believed to have previously indicated that impeachment would be a less likely scenario than an invoking of the 25th Amendment which would depose the president if the vice president and at least 13 cabinet members vote to do so.
The Breitbart executive has sounded the alarm before, with a separate Vanity Fair piece from last month noting, based on an inside source, that he "has told people he thinks Trump has only a 30 percent chance of making it the full term."
Since then, the president has still not had success getting health care legislation passed and he faces significant challenges on tax reform - both factors which have reportedly contributed to his weakening support, especially among the GOP establishment.
Furthermore, two new polls--one by Gallup and the other by NBC News/Wall Street Journal -have found that his approval numbers reached new lows at 33 and 38 percent, respectively.
And, despite Bannon's doubts about an impeachment, a recent Public Policy Polling survey determined that nearly half--or 49 percent--of respondents said they would support such a move.
