What, exactly, is New Zealand's "Chipocalypse?"

Since New Zealand had a ridiculous amount of rain last winter, Kiwis are concerned about climate change for one specific reason: its potatoes. With the country growing 500,000 tons of potatoes annually, the prospect of too much water is not good for the crops. In fact, the rain has wiped out 20 percent of New Zealand's potato crop.

With two-thirds of the country's potatoes going toward making chips or fries, the ripple effect of the rain has been huge. Stores have run out of chips, and New Zealanders are taking to social media to increase awareness of climate change. If it takes a #chipocalypse, so be it!
