Petraeus On Questioning John Kelly's Claims: 'We're All Fair Game'

Retired Gen. David Petraeus said on Sunday "we are all fair game," in response to a question about the White House claim that it's "highly inappropriate" to question John Kelly.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday remarked that it's "highly inappropriate" to debate chief of staff John Kelly, "given that he is a retired four-star Marine general," reports CNN.

Retired Army General and former CIA Director David Petraeus pushed back on that claim during his appearance on ABC News' 'This Week' Sunday.
"I think we're all fair game," Petraeus told host Martha Raddatz. "And I certainly experienced lots of that in testimony on Capitol Hill during the surge in Iraq and subsequent endeavors in Afghanistan central command and so forth."
"At the end of the day, we are fiercely protective of the rights of our Americans to express themselves even if that includes criticizing us," Petraeus added.
Sanders made her comment during a press briefing when reporters asserted that Kelly appeared to have made an erroneous claim about Democratic Representative Frederica Wilson the day before.
Asked if Kelly would return to address the media on the issue, Sanders responded, "If you want to go after General Kelly, that's up to you. But I think that if you want to get into a debate with a four-star Marine general, I think that's something highly inappropriate."
