VTR: Hello, I am Orhan. Mr. Oktar, how can one alleviate distress?
ADNAN OKTAR: You may drink plenty of warm water. Thirst causes distress. In a sense, it acts as an alarm for the body. When the body wants to get rid of something or when it lacks something, it alarms the brain. If one feels a bodily distress, it is an indication of water deficiency. Second; taking a cold bath is refreshing. Third; inactivity. The body needs to remain active. This increases endorphin secretion and invigorates the body. In fact, the Prophet Job (pbuh) says to God; "O Lord, I consent to all kinds of sufferings for the sake of earning your approval and love. But the severity of my distressful condition has started to hold me back from remembering You and saying my prayers." In other words, he is stating that he is in distress. "Grant me a cure, O Lord," he beseeches God. He asks God for a cure. Almighty God replies; "Drink water and stamp, move your feet." What we can deduce from this parable is remaining active, drinking water and taking bath. As God also tells the Prophet Job (pbuh) to bath. This is the cure the Qur'an offers for distress. Loving God dearly and submitting to Him. One can still feel distressed despite all these. But people need to feel distressed to be able to realize how hollow and fleeting the world is and behold God's beauty. Otherwise, they would become too fond of the world, something that they are not supposed to. This is why everyone has flaws. God created people with shortcomings so that they do not become attached to this world. And indeed, people are full of so many flaws. Even the most gorgeous girls and most handsome boys are riddled with many flaws. Otherwise, people would become too attached to this world. Distress and trouble bring people closer to God. And knowing that their stay in this world is a brief one, they will submit themselves to and love God more. They wish to immediately leave this world to become closer to God, but they also wish to stay and worship God in the best way they can. If they have nothing else to do, they wish to leave this world as soon as possible. As Said Nursi says; "If the time to leave has come and you have paid all your dues, do not insist on lingering on. By doing so, you would only estrange the spiritual entities. Because they do not love you for or wish to meet your earthly body, but your spiritual body in the hereafter. So do not incessantly hold on to your earthly forms."
"Remember Our slave Ayyub..." says Almighty God in the 41st verse of Surah Sâd. "...when he called on his Lord; ‘satan has afflicted me with exhaustion and suffering.’" Look, a terrible exhaustion and suffering. Almighty God replies; "‘Stamp your foot! Here is a cool bath and water to drink.’" Cool water sprouts from the ground. He stamps his feet repeatedly and rapidly. And water starts to come out from where he has stamped his feet. He is probably standing on a water source. Almighty God creates in such a manner as to not take away the free will. Water comes out from that spot. He drinks the water to his heart's content and then bathes in it, thus alleviating his distress and exhaustion.
