Live updates: Austrians go to the polls in watershed election

Austrians today (October 15) voted in a snap national election, widely seen as the latest barometer of right-wing populist politics in Europe

The Conservative People’s Party (ÖVP), whose leader Sebastian Kurz is just 31, came out as the frontrunner in opinion polls.

Majority members of the outgoing coalition, the Social Democrats, are competing for the second place against the far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ).
