How the wildfires will affect Northern California’s immigrant population [Mic Archives]

On Sunday, over a dozen wildfires set ablaze across Northern California, killing at least 13 people and wreaking havoc across the state's wine country. Despite Napa Valley’s reputation for affluence, there’s a large immigrant population in the county that relies on the agriculture jobs many wineries afford. According to Randy Capps, director of research for U.S. programs at the Migration Policy Institute, immigrant workers will be particularly affected due to the ongoing fires. “To all the counties able to rebuild that loss of jobs is going to hit the immigrant labor force pretty hard,” Capps said.
