The march was to commemorate the killing of 50 people by Indian paramilitary forces in 1990, but quickly turned into a protest condemning the French magazine Charlie Hebdo for their controversial cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. Protesters threw stones at police and attacked government institutions, while police responded with tear gas.
