A California woman is facing prosecution for allegedly trying to flush her newborn baby down a toilet in a McDonald's restroom.
A California woman is facing prosecution for allegedly trying to flush her newborn baby down a toilet in a McDonald's restroom, notes the Daily Post.
Prosecutors in San Mateo County assert that Sarah Lockner, 25, gave birth to the child on September 4 and in the Redwood City McDonald's where she was employed.
The San Mateo Daily Journal reports that Lockner had worked that evening, and, according to the District Attorney’s Office, “made repeated trips to the restroom, citing stomach pain. At around 10 p.m., her manager suggested she go home but, even after clocking out of her shift, Lockner allegedly stayed at the restaurant in the restroom.”
Based on court documents, fellow workers went to check on her and peered over the stall door, “to find her holding a newborn baby to the toilet.”
The child was reportedly not breathing when rescue workers arrived but was resuscitated; It is unknown if the baby sustained any long-term damage.
Lockner is being held on $11 million bail and scheduled to next appear in court on September 18, notes Fox News.
"[She] is accused of attempted murder, causing great bodily injury and assault on the child causing great bodily injury, according to the Daily Journal.
