An LGBT Pride Parade With A Military Escort In Ukraine

A large military show of force was present at the recent LGBT Pride Parade in Odessa, Ukraine.
It’s still dangerous to stand up for gay rights in Ukraine, where many activists were threatened by anti-gay protesters. Far-right nationalists have repeatedly targeted LGBT events. In the last Pride Parade, some of the marchers even had to be escorted home for their own safety.
Ukraine has denounced Russian anti-gay laws such as their so-called “gay propaganda” law, which the European Court of Human Rights has ruled encourages homophobia. The country is attempting to align with Europe to distance itself from Russia.
This was only the second LGBT Pride Parade in Odessa.
