‘Sumo’ Contest Makes Babies Compete To Cry First

by Jeff DonlanOne hundred babies in Japan participated in a sumo contest to see who would cry first.Babies from four months to two years in age are held face-to-face, dressed in traditional sumo apparel.  Then referees shout while parents and spectators cheer them on until one child or the other bursts into tears. The first baby to cry is declared the victor. The 400-year-old ritual takes place at a Japanese shrine and is believed to bring children good health. But hopefully not anxiety.
