Would You Use Your Finger As A Boarding Pass?

by Vocativ StaffCustomers flying Delta can now board using just their fingerprints at Reagan Washington National Airport. The airline says the option is available to customers who are members of Delta’s SkyMiles loyalty program and have also enrolled in CLEAR, one of the expedited airport security programs available in the United States.Delta started testing its biometric boarding procedure in May as a way to make the boarding process faster and safer. The fingerprinting process allows customers to board an aircraft or enter Delta Sky Club lounges without their ID or ticket.“Biometric verification has a higher level of accuracy than paper boarding passes and gives agents more time to assist customers with seat changes and other skilled tasks instead of having to scan individual tickets, and customers have less to keep track of as they travel through the airport,” said Gil West, Delta’s senior executive vice president and chief operating officer in a statement.JetBlue is also studying biometrics as the future of boarding credentials. The airline is already testing facial recognition that cross checks your photo with a government database. While this could expedite the process of quickly confirming who is on board, these new tools continue to raise privacy concerns. As a result, Delta says the fingerprinting protocol will remain optional.
