But in China, it’s gotten lot more embarrassing.Facial recognition systems have been installed at major intersections in four Chinese cities. Here’s how it works: Once the cameras capture footage of a jaywalker, then the system projects the video on a nearby screen. From there, the person’s face is cross-referenced with a police database, with the jaywalker’s ID and address displayed on the screen. This information could even be posted to social media.As a result, jaywalking in China has already dropped significantly.The shaming technique comes during a time when road safety has become a significant issue in China. The nation has the world’s highest annual traffic fatality rate, as 260,000 people are killed each year.
