Russia Dismisses UK’s New Aircraft Carrier As ‘Just A Convenient Oversized Target’

Relations between Russia and the U.K. are tense at large, but the two nations seem to be in a bit of spat over aircraft carriers in particular.
After the U.K.’s new aircraft carrier, the HMS Queen Elizabeth, made its debut, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov described it as, “just a convenient oversized target at sea," reports the BBC.
He also commented, “It is in the interests of the British Royal Navy not to show off the 'beauty' of its aircraft carrier on the high seas any closer than a few hundred miles to its Russian 'distant relative.'"
To be fair, he wasn’t the first to make disparaging comments about another country’s military vessel.
Sky News notes that days prior, Michael Fallon, defense secretary for the U.K., called Russia’s sole aircraft carrier, “old and dilapidated,” and said that, upon seeing the bright, shiny new HMS Queen Elizabeth, Russia would experience a, “little bit of envy."
