by Jonathan SangerLockheed Martin launched a flying drone from an underwater drone, the first time this has been accomplished autonomously. Their Vector Hawk drone took off from the Marlin MK2 in a 2016 test. Submaran, an unmanned surface vessel, kept an eye on things nearby. Vector Hawk can stay in the air for 70 minutes and can stray over 9 miles from its controller, while Marlin MK2 can carry 250 pounds and can trawl along for 18-24 hours. The test is part of a push by the military to develop machines that don’t require manual control.
