This Wheelchair Lets Users Stand

by Jeff DonlanA new wheelchair lets users rise up to a standing position, allowing them to reach places they couldn’t while seated. A lap belt and knee restraints prevent any falls. The hand-driven mechanism lets the user drive the chair without touching the wheels. The wheelchair, developed by the Center for Bionic Medicine at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, is close to being on the market. The CBM says it’s one of the first manual wheelchairs to offer users the ability to be mobile in either a seated or standing position.
