Soccer Announcer's Bagel Schadenfreude Makes for Classic Commentary

Bulgarian striker Georgi Hristov scored the opening goal of the night on his record-breaking 121st appearance for the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium, May 13. However, that special moment may forever be dubbed as simply “the bagel goal.”That’s thanks to commentary from Rowdies announcers Heather Donnelly and two male co-announcers, who tell viewers that Tim Dobrowolski, goalkeeper for Rowdies opponents Louisville City FC, “buys his defence bagels” anytime he “gets a shut-out.”Step forward Hristov to score the opening goal, leading to one announcer alongside Donnelly to roar, “Georgi Hristov will not allow the bagels! He takes the bagel off!”Another commentator then weighs in to add, “It takes the bagels off the scoreboard.” Dobrowolski’s defense must wait until their May 17 match-up with Tartan Devils before bagels are back on the menu.
