The Chinese government is investing $124 billion in the Belt and Road initiative, an effort to rebuild ports, roads, rail networks. The plan, which was first released in 2013, intends to expand trade relationships between Asia, Africa, and Europe. China's President Xi Jinping discussed the incoming development during a summit of world leaders in Bejing. He noted that new "Silk Road" was not merely an attempt to expand China's influence.
