Sharp, stabbing heel pain is a relatively common condition where, upon standing, the pain immediately begins. There are two different types of heel pain. The first is caused by over-use and repetitive stress of your feet. It is soreness from too much impact on a specific part of your foot. This condition is commonly referred to as "heel pain syndrome" and is usually caused by shoes with low very heels, a thinned out fat pad in your foot’s heel area, or from a abrupt increase in physical activity.

The second category of heel pain is plantar fasciitis, which is a very common diagnosis of heel discomfort. It is usually caused by overly side-bending your foot. The plantar fascia is a broad band of thick tissue that runs in the sole of your foot from your heel to your toes. Side-bending your foot causes the plantar fascia to be overly stretched and inflamed, resulting in pain in the heel and arch areas of your foot. Most often the pain will be greatest first thing in the morning when placing your foot on the floor, or just after a prolonged period of foot rest. The pain will gradually diminish as your foot is exercised during the day.

Doctors designed the Stretch-Away Plantar Fasciitis Night Brace to specifically treat eel pain from plantar fasciitis. It eliminates the morning heel pain before it starts without expensive splints and therapies. The Stretch-Away Plantar Fasciitis Night Brace does so because it gently stretch your plantar fascia while you sleep. When you wake up and take your first step in the morning, your tissues are already pre-stretched – and this avoids having the sharp morning foot and heel pain.
