Rockhampton Residents Warned to Brace for Peak Flooding

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk warned “significant flooding” was expected in the city of Rockhampton in a press conference on Tuesday, April 4.Thousands of properties were without power as floodwaters created by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie inundated towns in Queensland and northern New South Wales.According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Rockhampton’s Fitzroy River was expected to peak at nine metres on Thursday, April 6, but not go above the level reached during flooding in 2011.“As these waters continue to rise it is very important for people to stay out of floodwaters,” Premier Palaszczuk said.In a statement, the premier added work was underway to return power to 19,600 electricity customers who had lost supply during the cyclone.
