A conditioned mind is always engaged in doing something. It is not designed to operate according to you, but is there to lead so that you can follow what it wants. The goal of meditation then, is to settle your conditioned mind so that it operates in its natural state. Meditation is not about sitting still and pretending that there are no thoughts, because there is no mind without thoughts. Meditation is about stabilizing your mind on your chosen thought and to maintain harmony within. It is the ability to hold that thought for as long as desired with perfect ease, without any undue exertion, with a sharp and still mind and ultimately becoming one with that thought. In that oneness, in that supreme quietude, when you continue your meditation with awareness, you gain super consciousness and super knowledge, but remember: it does not come without flawless concentration and effort.
Good meditation is about acceptance, awareness, attitude, and balance. This is the skill one needs to acquire— achieving that balance and maintaining it at all times is what defines the crucial difference between pure meditation and thinking you are meditating.
