Learn how to make delicious Potato Chilli Masala, a quick and easy vegetarian starter recipe from our chef Archana on Ruchkar Mejwani Karwar Special.

Potato Chilli Masala is known as Nonche in Karwar where boiled baby potatoes are tempered and tossed in spicy red chilli paste. They taste good with chapati, rice and can also be enjoyed just by itself.

Ingredients:

250 gms Baby Potatoes, boiled
2-3 tbsp Oil
10-12 Fenugreek Seeds
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4th tsp Asafoetida
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
1 Lemon
3-4 Bedgi Red Chillies
12 Sankeshwari Red Chillies
Salt to taste
Water

Method:

- Boil the baby potatoes.
- Soak the dry red chillies in some water for 30 minutes. Then grind the chillies into a fine paste. Keep this red chilli paste aside.
- In a pan heat some oil.
- Add fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder.
- Then add baby potatoes and give a quick stir.
- Add salt & juice of one lemon. Give a stir.
- Add the red chilli paste. Give a stir
- Add little water and stir well.
- Cover it with a lid for 5 minutes and let everything cook.
- Lip smacking Potato Chilli Masala is ready.
