The Mount of Olives is on the east of Jerusalem across the Kidron Valley. Olive groves once covered its slopes but it is now a residential area. Jesus wept over Jerusalem here, and also ascended to heaven here (Acts 1:9-12). Zechariah ells us that the Lord will come to the Mount of Olives to usher in everlasting peace (Zechariah 14:1-2). At the foot of the mount is the Garden of Gethsemane.
