Giant panda cub Bei Bei undergoes emergency surgery

Giant panda cub Bei Bei underwent an emergency surgery after zookeepers noticed the bear was sleeping all the time and not eating. He was sent to the hospital where veterinarians discovered the cub had a life-threatening blockage in his intestines. A volunteer veterinary surgeon removed a lemon-sized partly chewed piece of bamboo. Bei Bei is now in stable condition and is on his way to a quick recovery. “Bei Bei’s prognosis is very good. The challenge will be for our team to monitor him safely and that requires his cooperation," Director Dennis Kelly in a statement.
