Hands Across Harlem- The Short

April 12, 2007 - The Coalition to Save Harlem organized and sponsored a mass protest demonstration to defeat New York City's Planning proposal of the rezoning of 125th Street in Harlem New York. Dubbed "Hands Across Harlem", more than 300 people formed an human chain along the boulevard of 125th Street from 7th Avenue (Adam Clayton Jr. Boulevard) to Seventh Ave( Malcolm X Boulevard) in opposition to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg plan of gentrification.
Council member Charles Barron from the borough of Brooklyn stood line with demonstrators chanting "HARLEM is not For Sale". Along side him was Nw York State Senator Bill Perkins. Political no show included Council Member Inez Dickens, who's district encompasses the bulk the 125th Street Rezoning Plan, and New York City Assembly Keith Wright.
