"Sunlight on a Broken Column" by Attia Hosain was first published in 1961. It is an autobiographical novel, though fictionalized.
The story is set in Lucknow. Laila, a fifteen years old orphaned girl, is the narrator of the novel. She is the daughter of a rich Muslim family of Taluqdars.
