"Forbidden Colors" by Yukio Mishima was first published in 1951. It was first published in Japanese and the title translates "Secret Pleasure." It was translated into English in 1968.

Kinijiki is a euphemism for homosexuality, and Kanji means "forbidden." In the present case it means "erotic love." However, it also means "color."
