Peruvian Ancestral Natural Products in Danger of 'Bio-Piracy'

Maca, Cat's Claw, Yacón, Tara. these are some of the Andean and Amazonian ancestral natural products rich in proteins, calcium, and several other nutrients and vitamins. They are also believed to have natural curing, antioxidant, and aphrodisiac properties. However, their consumption in Peru is under threat due to "bio-piracy" as foreign companies have filed over 11 thousand patents for these products. Our correspondent Rael Mora has the story.
